The present dissertation is an analysis of the sociological justification of values in E.Durkheim. In the first chapter a systematic exposition of the argumentation theory by Chaïm Perelman and Olbrechts-Tyteca is presented with the objectives of, on one side, introduce some indispensable elements for the argumentation analysis of Durkheimian sociology, on the other side, to form a repertoire that allows future surveys with the intention to establish a systematic logic of the sociological justification of values founded on a theory of language and symbolism. In the second chapter a analysis of Durkheim's work is presented. On the first topic, I introduce the social-historic context of sociology foundation, its interlocutors, the conflict of values and the author's political and moral commitment. The presentation is made having as reference what I call The process of individualism , being a debate about the legitimacy of moral and intellectual rules in a ever growing individualistic world, where old forms of authority have lost their value. From this discussion I have extracted systematic problems that intertwine in opposition between Life and Reason. On the second topic I move to the analysis of Durkheim's ontological argument, presenting it through his dialectical reasoning and his analogies, both of which give the conception of Life factual and evaluative centrality in his sociology. On the third topic, I present the Durkheim s anthropology, what will give it intelligibility for the ontological conception, allowing the understanding of the transition from Social Forces to Symbolic forms . On the fourth topic, I show how the Social symbolic formation occurs, which will give meaning to the sociological mission, which is understood to describe and explain the diverse forms of moral authority . On the fifth topic, I introduce the conception of Durkheim's science, which will be seen as living science of life . Lastly, I conclude by moving towards a symbolic opening , making a balance about Durkheim's sociology and his theory of symbolism, what allows it to branch the research to many diverse explorations in the field of Language and symbolism theory.
