A estrutura temática das seções introdução e conclusão em artigos acadê-micos: uma abordagem sistêmico-funcional

This thesis aims to analyze the introduction and conclusion sections of ten academic articles in the Linguistics’ field published in a Qualis A1 journal from 2019 to 2021, five from Revista Alfa and five from Revista Delta. It is a work with a qualitative and quantitative ap-proach. The intention of the research is to compare the structures used in the introduction and conclusion sections, which have different communicative purposes, and to compare the au-thors' choices regarding the themes’ selection. To carry out this analysis, we used Systemic-Functional Linguistics as a theoretical support, which understands language as a network of linguistic systems that we use to construct meanings. The article is based on the works of Hal-liday and Matthiessen (2014), Gouveia (2009), Leila Barbara and Célia Maria Macêdo de Macêdo (2009) and Fuzer and Cabral (2014). Through the thematic structure, resource of the textual metafunction, a quantitative survey of the Themes in each section was carried out, based on the hypothesis that there are more Multiple Themes in the conclusion section than in the introduction. From the quantitative survey, an analysis of the results was carried out in order to relate the structures found with the communicative purpose of each section. Thus, the importance of this study, which investigates the structure in relation to the meanings’ place-ment, was proven in order to make readers more aware of the choices in the writing process.
