The creation of Environmental Protected Areas is stated under the 15th article of the National System for Conservation Unities (Law 9.985/2000) and has as its basic objectives to protect the biodiversity, discipline the occupation process and assure the sustainability natural resources use. Unfortunately, the importance of the EPA, UFAM, INPA, ULBRA, LAGOA DO JAPIIM, ELISA MIRANDA E ACARIQUARA, is not restricted to the ecological aspects and environmental services at the disposal of the city of Manaus, because it encompasses a archeological site, that according to IPHAN (2008), the human remains found at the site are linked to cultural monuments from the Amerindians societies, being of huge importance for the understanding the occupation process, specially by the pre-Colombians, that have been occupying the region for thousands of years. Citing the example of the site Japiim, at the southernmost portion of the EPA has been suffering losses of most of its historical registers because of urban expansion. This study has as objective to analyze the knowledge of the citizens, workers and students from the area about the archeological heritage found at the site, considering the historical process of the development of the neighborhoods encompassed by the EPA. Methodology consisted of bibliographic search about the development and consolidation of the EPA; semistructured interviews with a group (I) composed by people who live at the neighborhood Atilio Andreazza and workers who work in or around the archeological site and a second group (II) composed exclusively by graduation students from ULBRA. Twenty six people were interviewed with the help of the Management of the EPA. the quantitative analysis of the data was made in Microsoft Excell 2010 and the qualitative analysis was made evaluating the subject in relation to the socioenvironmental context. Geoprocessing was used for space analysis. UC research can be used to develop strategies to protect the socioenvironmental attributes of the area, including the human contribution in its management.
