Para tal realizar-se-á, inicialmente, um resgate teóricohistórico das formas de habitação popular em São Paulo, assim como a interpretação desse processo à luz da urbanização ocorrida tipicamente nos países periféricos, em suas características próprias, como a acumulação primitiva nas cidades. Posteriormente serão apresentadas as características específicas das duas ocupações pesquisadas e dos movimentos responsáveis, considerando as diferenças estruturas que agem sobre elas. Para atender ao objetivo estipulado foram aplicados questionários socioeconômicos que permitiram identificar as principais características dos moradores, assim como as trajetórias de vida que os levaram até a ocupação por moradia, identificando recorrências, padrões e diferenciais de acordo com a localização. A pesquisa utilizou também dados oficiais disponíveis relevantes, fornecidos por documentos oficiais, órgãos de estatística e outros, bem como meios de comunicação e literatura especializada. Esperava-se, com essa pesquisa, identificar se as ocupações urbanas consistiam em uma estratégia de luta e resistência, mas também em um meio de aprofundar a espoliação urbana e também de conhecer se o centro, devido às facilidades referentes à acessibilidade, possibilitava uma maior segurança financeira aos moradores. Concluímos que a ocupação central possui vantagens relativas ao acesso e segurança da renda familiar, melhor acesso aos equipamentos e serviços públicos, ainda que os moradores não sejam totalmente integrados à região e que a escolaridade formal é maior. Ainda assim, observamos que os moradores da ocupação periférica tem maior apego à região em que moram, fruto da construção de um identidade territorial positiva.The present dissertation proposes to carry out a comparative analysis between two occupations of dwelling, Ocupação Mauá (MMLJ), in the central region of the city of São Paulo, and Caguassú Leste (MSTC), in the periphery of the municipality, with the objective of understanding the main differences between them, similaries mainly as to the socioeconomic profile of the residents and their insertion in the city. This will initially be a theoretical-historical rescue of the forms of popular housing in São Paulo, as well as the interpretation of this process in the light of urbanization typically occurring in peripheral countries in their own characteristics, such as primitive accumulation in cities. Subsequently, the specific characteristics of the two occupations surveyed and the movements responsible will be presented, considering the different structures that act on them. In order to meet the stipulated objective, socioeconomic questionnaires were used to identify the main characteristics of the residents, as well as the life trajectories that led them to occupancy by dwelling, identifying recurrences, patterns and differentials according to location. The survey also analyzed the relevant available official data, provided by official documents, statistical agencies and others, as well as media and specialized literature. It was hoped, with this research, to evaluate if the urban occupations consisted in a strategy of struggle and resistance, but also in a way to deepen the urban spoliation and also to know if the center, due to the accessibility facilities, allowed a greater financial security to the residents. We conclude that the central occupation has advantages related to access and security of family income, better access to public equipment and services, even though the residents are not fully integrated in the region and formal education is greater.
