Resumo: This dissertation deals with the overall effects on national integration based upon the endogenous growth theory. The core assignment is to evaluate how different hypotheses on the knowledge diffusion and qualification of labor among integrated regions affect the growth trend of product, capital and consumption. It is demonstrated that in the absence of knowledge diffusion, the comparison between two regions with different levels of knowledge points out that the least developed region tends to become specialized in manufacturing, while the leader region keeps its manufacturing diversification and dictates the growth path of the other region. This will not only happen if the behind region to implement a vigorous process of qualification of labor to an upper tax of the other region. On the other hand, if the knowledge diffusion takes place, both regions maintain the same diversification in manufacturing production and creation of new technologies. Lastly, it is also verified that a national integration affects positively the economic growth path, regardless the knowledge diffusion.

A proposta do trabalho é avaliar como diferentes hipóteses sobre a difusão de conhecimento e qualificação de mão-de-obra, dentro das regiões integradas, afetam as trajetórias do produto, do capital e do consumo. Mostra-se que na ausência de difusão de conhecimento a integração entre regiões desiguais faz com que aquela mais atrasada se especialize na produção de bens manufaturados, enquanto a outra permanece diversificada na produção de manufaturados e de novos projetos, governando a trajetória de crescimento de ambas as regiões. Isso não acorrerá caso a região atrasada implemente um vigoroso processo de qualificação de mão-de-obra a uma taxa superior a da outra região. Por outro lado, se a difusão de conhecimento ocorre, ambas as regiões continuam engajadas na produção de bens manufaturados e de novas tecnologias.
