Providing comprehensive care for newborns is part of good health practices, since it favors the strengthening of comprehensive care in the health-disease process of the population. Premature birth and hospitalization in the NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) have a negative impact on interactions between parents and children, which in turn is associated with adverse consequences for long-term development. This study aims to analyze how the mother-child binomial is received in the neonatal intensive care and medium-risk units of the Assis Chateaubriand School Maternity Hospital (MEAC). To analyze how the dialogue takes place between the health professionals who accompany the baby and its mother throughout the hospitalization period and what the hospital offers to accommodate this binomial in terms of psychological support, infrastructure, and breastfeeding support. In this sense, we sought to highlight what is said and guided by the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization. In addition to identifying what the service offers to mothers of newborns and evaluating their daily and weekly stay in neonatal units. It is characterized as a qualitative study, with a mixed approach, presenting analyses of data collected through interviews with mothers through questionnaires. 43 patients were evaluated between January 2024 and February 2024, through the application of questionnaires. The evaluations were carried out with babies whose parents authorized participation in the research, by signing the Informed Consent Form (ICF), after having been informed about the objectives and methodology of the proposed study. After the results, recommendations were made for welcoming the neonatal binomial from day one (01) in the unit. In turn, contributing to more humanized care for mothers and newborns in the intensive care and intermediate care unit.
