The issue of tragicity and repetition in the works of the Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard reflects the inherent insolubility of the contradiction between reality and possibility. The theoretical grounding of this contradiction in the objective sphere of concepts, when transposed to the subjective realm and internalized by the individual, maintains the dialectical tension that is intrinsic to it. This redefined significance impacts the very essence of tragicity, transcending its conventional association with the tragic as a literary form and instead assuming a philosophical category that reinterprets the human condition. The relocation of conflicting terms from their original context and their subsequent reconfiguration within subjective experiences signifies the dissolution of the contradiction within concrete existence, thereby compelling individuals to engage not merely in a formal relationship with these terms, but to directly confront the consequences of integrating this dialectical dynamic into their inner being. Hence, it is crucial to approach these terms from a tragic perspective, given that the subjective engagement with each term is characterized by suffering and passion. The structure of this study will benefit from this dual perspective as it explores, following an initial problem exposition, the pathos of reality and the pathos of possibility. Human existence, grappling with the incongruity between its constituent elements and the challenge of reconciling them, navigates through aesthetic, ethical, and religious determinations without ever fully reconciling the inherent philosophical tensions. As such, the heuristic approach is adopted to delve into the problem, not with the aim of providing a definitive solution, but rather to uncover the nuances of subjective indeterminacy. This subjective indeterminacy, when viewed through the lens of the pathos of reality, manifests in the fluid and interchangeable nature of actual suffering, underscoring the intricate pursuit ofhuman freedom. Conversely, when viewed through the pathos of possibility, it reveals itself in the looming specter of repetition, distinct from Platonic recollection and speculative mediation, yet serving as an illusory endeavor to recapture the immediacy of existence while evading the seal of contradiction. Nevertheless, this pursuit is inevitably tinged with tragic overtones, as individuals, in their continuous quest for determination, must grapple with the multitude of possibilities in realizing their existence.
