Resumo: The rate of cesarean sections in Brazil is one of the highest in the world and has been discussed with a view to reducing complications resulting from this procedure, and preventable maternal, fetal and infant deaths. The research aims to analyze the adequacy of indicating cesarean sections in maternity hospitals in the state of Ceará, between 2017 and 2021. The data, collected in the Live Birth Information System (SINASC), on the DATASUS-TABNET platform, went through a tabulation procedure in Microsoft Office Excel ®, and processing using the software R for Windows version 3.5.1, where synthesis measures (descriptive statistics) and the application of the Chi-square analytical test of independence were applied. 630,704 births were analyzed, with a predominance of these being surgical cesarean sections (59%), especially in 2021 (61.45%). Sociodemographic, gestational and neonatal data were also observed. Carrying out this study made it possible to identify the rates of cesarean sections performed in the State of Ceará, through the proposal and based on the findings, it is concluded that the rate of cesarean sections in the State reflects the trend observed in Brazil and the world. In conclusion, it is necessary to continue studies that make it possible to guide policy guidelines designed to reduce the proportion of cesarean births and that are also capable of evaluating their implementation and effectiveness in each health sector

A pesquisa tem como objetivo analisar a adequação da indicação de cesarianas em maternidades no estado do Ceará, entre 2017 a 2021. Os dados, coletados no Sistema de Informação sobre Nascidos Vivos(SINASC), da plataforma DATASUS-TABNET, passaram por procedimento de tabulação no Microsoft Office Excel ®, e processamento por meio do software R for Windows versão 3.5.1, onde foram aplicadas medidas de síntese (estatística descritiva) e a aplicação do teste analítico de Qui-quadrado de independência. Foram analisados 630.704 partos, com predominância destes por procedimento cirúrgico de cesariana (59%), sobretudo no ano de 2021 (61,45%). Observou-se ainda dados sociodemográficos, gestacionais e neonatais. A realização deste estudo possibilitou identificar os índices de cesarianas realizadas no Estado do Ceará, mediante a proposta e com base nos achados, conclui-se que o índice de cesáreas no Estado reflete a tendência observada no Brasil e no mundo.
