Implicações da prosódia no gênero palestra motivacional

Prosody, as a suprasegmental resource of speech, which helps in the production of intentions during the elaboration of statements, is an object of study that can be studied from different perspectives. In the case of the present study, we performed an acoustic analysis of the motivational speech given by speakers. We observed the existing intention in statements that have a markedly motivational character and, also, we did an acoustic analysis of the prosodic elements of the duration variation: pitch (height), duration, speech rate and pause; and prosodic elements of volume: intensity.The acoustic analysis of the sentences was performed by using PRAAT, an opened source software used in speech analysis and synthesis. We verified how these elements collaborate for the constitution of the discursive genre motivational lecture, which has persuasion as one of its main characteristics. By motivational speech, we refer to the speech that presents the public with a message of optimism, encouragement, guidance and suggestion of direction (BRUNELLI, 2004). To carry out the research, we had as a base theoretical reference the studies developed by Cagliari (1992), Bollela (2006) and Antunes (2015).Taking as a reference the above-named prosodic aspects, we have as a basic hypothesis the existence of a direct relationship between prosodic elements and the construction of the previously mentioned discursive genre. In order to verify our research hypotheses, we selected a corpus, choosing two videos of motivational speeches given by Leandro Karnal and Clóvis de Barros Filho, respectively, which deal with professional improvement issues. After choosing the videos, we selected phrases that were separated into persuasive and unmarked statements. The first group consists of phrases that contain messages of optimism, advice, suggestions, orders and appeals directed to the public, while the second group consists of statements in which the motivational content is not explicit in its elaboration. The result proved that prosody contributes to persuasion in motivational discourse through speech organization strategies. Such strategies are supported by the use of prosodic elements (pitch (height), duration, volume, speed of speech and pause) in a dynamic and recurrent way in the speech of the speakers.
