Resumo: For the year 2045, an estimated 693 million people will have diabetes worldwide. Diabetes has become a serious public health problem. Among the most common complications are foot ulcers that affect more than 30% of the diabetic population over 40 years of age. So far, there is no set of effective measures for the complete resolution of ulcers and, in many cases, there may be lower limb amputation, seriously interfering with the quality of life of these patients. Here in this work we seek to clarify the etiology, geographic distribution, and pathophysiology of these ulcers, detailing the evolution and healing process with an emphasis on the inflammatory process. Furthermore, the correct classification for diagnosis, prognosis and resolution of ulcers was mentioned. Thus, the work makes a contribution to this problem that seriously affects the quality of life of diabetic patients.

O diabetes se tornou um sério problema de saúde pública. Entre as complicações mais comuns estão, as úlceras nos pés que afetam mais de 30% da população diabética com mais de 40 anos. Até o momento, não existe um conjunto de medidas eficazes para a resolução completa das úlceras e, em muitos casos, pode haver amputação de membros inferiores, interferindo gravemente na qualidade de vida desses pacientes. Aqui neste trabalho buscamos esclarecer a etiologia, distribuição geográfica, e fisiopatologia destas úlceras, detalhando o processo de evolução e cicatrização com ênfase no processo inflamatório. Além disso, a classificação correta para diagnóstico, prognóstico e resolução das úlceras foram mencionados.
