Resumo: The present study investigates the fatigue life test typically performed in Brazil to characterize asphalt mixtures. Damage evolution is interpreted by analyzing a parameter other than the number of load cycles to failure. The controlled diametral compression fatigue test was used, and the tension strainwas measured for every load cycle up until a moment prior to failure. A strain level limit ofapproximately five times the initial strain was obtained from the number of cycles versus tension strain graph for the HMA investigated, for a mixture with rubber-aggregate produced with the dry process and a mixture with rubber-aggregate produced with the wet process,this limit was approximately six times, whereas for mitures with recycled material, this limit was not contant for each stress level.

Especificamente, destaca-se o fato do material sofrer dano progressivo ao longo do carregamento repetido do ensaio, afetando assim sua rigidez e conseqüentemente o estado de tensões no mesmo. Neste trabalho é feita uma análise da evolução do dano em diferentes misturas asfálticas. Realizou-se o ensaio de fadiga por compressão diametral a tensão controlada, permitindo que se obtivesse os valores de deformação em cada aplicação de carga até momentos antes da ruptura completa da amostra. Um limite de deformação da ordem de cinco vezes o valor da deformação inicial foi obtido através da avaliação do gráfico número de golpes por deformação de tração para o CBUQ, enquanto que para uma mistura com agregado-borracha produzido pelo processo seco e outra pelo processo úmido, este limite foi da ordem de seis vezes.
