Resumo: This work aims at persecuting the narratives of young people about their training as dancers performed at the Escola de Dança de Paracuru (Paracuru Dance School) and the stigmas faced by men who dance ballet. The main theoretical categories of reference were: stigma, homophobia, insult, youth, gender and sexuality. This is a qualitative research, based on the ethnographic approach, performed at the Escola de Dança de Paracuru in the state of Ceará. The fieldwork was carried out for thirteen months, through participant observation, field journal, individual interviews, with the direct collaboration of eight subjects and indirectly from the entire team of the Escola de Dança de Paracuru. The research results point out the challenges faced by both male and female dancers regarding the acceptance and denial of their families and of the city of Paracuru concerning the dance as a work perspective, in addition to the stigmas and prejudices suffered from the matters of sexuality referred to the practice of ballet, mainly by boys. The narratives indicate that, slowly, the aggressions and the discredit of the population were attenuated, in a process of de-stigmatization of practices and training in dance. Nowadays, the Escola de Dança de Paracuru has a model status in the town and has become a pride and a reference in the youth development.

As principais categorias teóricas de referência foram: estigma, homofobia, injúria, juventude, gênero e sexualidade. Esta é uma pesquisa qualitativa, que se apoia na abordagem etnográfica, realizada na Escola de Dança de Paracuru, no estado do Ceará. O trabalho de campo foi realizado durante treze meses, por meio de observação participante, diário de campo, entrevistas individuais, contando com a colaboração direta de oito sujeitos e indireta de toda a equipe da Escola de Dança de Paracuru. O resultado da pesquisa aponta os desafios enfrentados pelos bailarinos e bailarinas quanto à aceitação e negação das suas famílias e da cidade de Paracuru no que se refere à dança como perspectiva de trabalho, além dos estigmas e preconceitos sofridos a partir das questões de sexualidade ligadas à prática do balé, principalmente por parte dos homens. As narrativas indicam que, de forma lenta, as agressões e o descrédito da população foram se atenuando, num processo de desestigmatização das práticas e da formação em dança. Atualmente, a Escola de Dança de Paracuru possui status de projeto modelo na cidade, sendo motivo de orgulho e se tornando referência em formação da juventude.Cette thèse vise à comprendre les récits des jeunes sur leur formation de danseurs à l'Escola de Dança de Paracuru (École de Danse de Paracuru) et les stigmates auxquels font face les hommes qui dansent le ballet. Les principales catégories théoriques de référence étaient: la stigmatisation, l'homophobie, les blessures, la jeunesse, le genre et la sexualité. C'est une recherche qualitative, basée sur l'approche ethnographique, réalisée à l'Escola de Dança de Paracuru dans l'état du Ceará. Le travail de terrain a été effectué pendant treize mois, à travers l'observation participant, le journal de recherche, des entretiens individuels, avec la collaboration directe de huit sujets et indirectement de toute l'équipe de l'Escola de Dança de Paracuru. Les résultats de la recherche soulignent les défis auxquels sont confrontés les danseurs et les danseuses concernant l'acceptation et le déni de leur famille et de la ville de Paracuru en ce qui concerne la perspective de la danse, ainsi que le stigmate et préjugés liés aux questions de sexualité, principalement par des hommes qui pratiquent le ballet. Les récits indiquent que, lentement, les agressions et le discrédit de la population par rapport à eux se sont atténués, dans un processus de déstigmatisation des pratiques et de la formation en danse.
