Resumo: The present work aims to present one of the most famous and important theorems of Mathematics: the Pythagorean Theorem. For that, we started a historical approach of Pythagoras and the Pythagorean School, in addition to highlighting that, despite taking his name, the theorem was already known even before Pythagoras. In the second section, we present some of the various publications, the result of a thorough research in several works already published on the subject. In the third section, we show some applications of this theory in the Middle and in other areas of knowledge, in addition to the reported recreational activities carried out with students from the José de Borba Vasconcelos School of Teaching in Full Time, located in the Industrial district, municipality of Maraú. The fourth and last section is dedicated to final remarks.
