Resumo: Seminal plasma proteins have many roles in the reproductive physiology of dairy farm animals, which may directly influence the fertility of breeders. Studies conducted with ruminant and non-ruminant animals aim to identify proteins present in seminal plasma, as well as their degree of influence on fertility. Bulls from breed Gir are one of the most common breeds in northeastern Brazil, however knowledge about their reproductive physiology is still limited. To obtain these data, the andrological evaluation is an efficient method to determine a breeder's service potential through physical evaluation and semen quality, such as the evaluation of morphologically normal sperm and total defects. This study aims to identify the association between the electrophoretic profile of seminal plasma proteins and the concentration of total sperm cell defects. Seminal plasma samples from 14 dairy Gir bulls collected at artificial insemination plant level were used. The animals were divided into two groups by the Aglomerative Nesting method, Group 1 containing the animals with the highest percentage of total sperm cell defects and Group 2 containing the animals with the lowest percentage of sperm cell defects. Evaluated at the andrological examination, the groups differed only in the characteristic total defects. In the evaluation of the seminal plasma electrophoretic profile of the experimental animals, differentially expressed bands were detected and it can be concluded that there is an association between the total defects characteristics and the molecular weight bands 94.5 kDa, 58.48 kDa and 14.1 kDa (corresponding B5, B13 and B20 respectively) in dairy Gir bulls.
