Resumo: The expansion of urban areas may lead to a center-periphery sprawl, a phenomenon common to most brazilian metropolises. In this context, the high income population has been attracted by new forms of urban habitats culminating in a process of socio-spatial self-segregation in the city's territory. This pattern leads to negative consequences for the city, with the unlimited expansion of the urban spot compromising the levels of accessibility to work activities, study, among others that the population wishes to perform. This master's research aims to understand the phenomenon of urban sprawl by self-segregation and its impact on the urban accessibility of Fortaleza. For this, adopting an interdisciplinary approach that considers the interaction of the subsystems of land use and transport, it is proposed the representation, characterization and diagnosis of this problem, from the definition of indicators capable of representing the problems and their causal relations . For these analyzes, operational modeling and spatial statistics tools were used, contributing to the understanding of this complex problem. It is hoped to advance in the discussions about the urban accessibility planning from the phenomenological and methodological application, contributing in the systematization of the integrated urban planning process.

Nesse contexto, a população de alta renda vem sendo atraída por novas formas de habitats urbanos culminando num processo de autossegregação socioespacial no território da cidade. Esse padrão acarreta em consequências negativas para a cidade, com a expansão desmedida da mancha urbana comprometendo os níveis de acessibilidade às atividades de trabalho, estudo, dentre outras que a população deseja realizar. Esta pesquisa de mestrado tem como objetivo compreender o fenômeno do espraiamento urbano por autossegregação e seu impacto na acessibilidade urbana de Fortaleza. Para isso, adotando uma abordagem interdisciplinar que considera a interação dos subsistemas de uso do solo e de transportes, propõe-se a representação, a caracterização e o diagnóstico dessa problemática, a partir da definição de indicadores capazes de representar os problemas e suas relações causais. Para essas análises foram utilizadas ferramentas da modelagem operacional e de estatística espacial, contribuindo para a compreensão dessa problemática complexa.
