Dissertação (Mestrado em Geografia) - Centro de Ciências, Universidade Federal do Ceará, Fortaleza, 2013.This paper entitled "The Regionalization of Tourism in the States of Ceará Piauí and Maranhão from the Sustainable Development Plan of the Tourist Region (PDSRT) of the Mid-North of Brazil" has as its main objective: understand the process of regionalization of tourism from the structure of the PDSRT Mid-North that involves portions of the states of Ceará Piauí and Maranhão comprising a total of ninety municipalities The methodological procedures used were: a literature review, both related to tourism as the concept of “Region” and the process of regionalization; The analysis of public policies on tourism at state and regional levels as well as the weaknesses and limitations of the Mid-North Plan The information obtained was mainly achieved through secondary data provided by governmental institutions or regulators The refered theme is relevant because of this policy of tourism is structured on a regional scale (previously it was only performed at the state level) aiming the various disagreements that envolves it By analyzing this recent political regionalization of tourism we can perceive a false developmental concern because when we look at the the proposed integration among the participating municipalities we can notice the prioritization of coastal areas especially of the municipalities that are part of the "Rota das Emocões" that are the drive shaft of the Plan Furthermore, tourism is used as a tool to leverage the economy and lessen the misery of those municipalities that have the worst Human Development Index of the country, leaving in the background the local social dynamics contrary to the developmental logic proposed in its statement Thus the regionalization between the three states is frail at the moment.O presente trabalho intitulado “A regionalização do turismo nos estados do Ceará, Piauí e Maranhão a partir do Plano de Desenvolvimento Sustentável da Região Turística (PDSRT) do Meio-Norte” tem como objetivo principal entender o processo de regionalização do turismo a partir da estruturação do PDSRT do Meio-Norte que envolve parcelas dos estados do Ceará Piauí e Maranhão compreendendo um total de noventa municípios Os procedimentos metodológicos usados foram: pesquisa bibliográfica tanto relacionada à atividade turística quanto ao conceito de Região e o processo de Regionalização análise de políticas públicas de turismo em escala estadual e regional;
