Resumo: The present dissertation proposes to discuss the issue of race and class in Brazil from the work of Florestan Fernandes. Reconstituting the main aspects of his intellectual trajectory, the text highlights the events and conjunctures that led to the meeting / relationship with the racial question, one of the central focuses of the Paulista School of Sociology. Part of the present proposal is to present an interpretation of the author and his main contributions to the intellectual field of race in Brazil. The work is bibliographical, using the works of the author and at the same time his commentators and critics. In this sense, a discussion of Florestan Fernandes interpretation of the racial question is first emphasized in the book The integration of the Negro in class society. The text advances with a proposal to read the studies of Florestan Fernandes on the "bourgeois revolution in Brazil" and "dependent capitalism". This is because, when evidencing the author's structural reading on capitalism and the position of Brazil in it, the theme of assimilation of the black will gain unique outlines

Reconstituindo os principais aspectos de sua trajetória intelectual, o texto destaca os eventos e conjunturas que redundaram no encontro/relação com a questão racial, um dos enfoques centrais da chamada Escola Paulista de Sociologia. Parte da presente proposta é apresentar uma interpretação do autor e de suas principais contribuições para o campo intelectual da questão racial no Brasil. O trabalho é de cunho bibliográfico, recorrendo às obras do autor e ao mesmo tempo seus comentadores e críticos. Neste mister, sublinha-se incialmente um debate da interpretação de Florestan Fernandes em relação a questão racial a partir do livro A integração do negro na sociedade de classe. O texto avança com uma proposta de leitura dos estudos de Florestan Fernandes sobre a “revolução burguesa no Brasil” e o “capitalismo dependente”.
