Defined as a complex set of beliefs that blame the victim, absolve the offender and minimize or justify aggression against women, rape myths serve to sustain and perpetuate such kind of violence. Researches about sexual violence have, over the years, drawn more attention to the gravity and importance of this matter, leading researchers to question what the factors involved in this theme are. These studies have provided greater visibility to the issue, however, there are still many gaps in the literature on the subject, especially in relation to cultural aspects that support the discourses of victims" accountability, trivialization and perpetuation of violence, by legal professionals. Based on the theories of Social Representation, Human Values and Honor, this dissertation aimed primarily to verify and understand which constructs serve as support for the maintenance and propagation of rape myths in legal academic context. For this, a survey was conducted with 281 final year undergraduate Law students, 57.6% female, with a mean age of 23.6 years (SD = 3.78). These participants answered a questionnaire containing standardized instruments (Honor, Rape Myths, Human Values and Social Desirability), evocations, an open question, and sociodemographic characteristics. To present the theoretical foundation as well as the results in a structured way, the dissertation is divided into three articles. The first paper presents the validation of the Rape Myths Scale, and the association of the four dimensions found with social desirability, gender and the participants" level of religiosity. The second article, in turn, presents the observed associations between rape myths" dimensions, human values and honor concerns. Finally, the third article, we sought to identify through evocations of free associations and one open question, the social representations of women, honored and dishonored women and what kind of arguments are used, by these students, in the defense of a man accused of sexual violence. Data were organized and analyzed by using the software SPSS and Evoc. Content analysis was also used. In general, associations between acceptance of rape myths, values, honor and level of religiosity were observed, corroborating the expected theoretical associations. Also, Law student"s social representations have shown a contradiction between the so-called ideals of 'justice' and 'fairness' and practices that produce and validate prejudices, injustices and oppression of female rape victims. Based on the findings of this research, it is emphasized the need for a thorough discussion of the professional training of those who will be the future Law operators and that will have to deal with the characters involved in this type of crime.
