Resumo: Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate, in vitro, the efficacy of bleaching in teeth with orthodontic brackets. Methods: Fifty bovine incisors were divided into 5 groups (n = 10). Group A: control (kept in artificial saliva); Group B: Opalescence Boost (38% hydrogen peroxide; Ultradent Products, USA); Group C: Power Bleaching (37% carbamide peroxide, BM4, Brazil); Group D: Opalescence Treswhite Ortho (8% hydrogen peroxide, Ultradent, Utah); and Group E: 3D White Whitestrips Oral-B (10% hydrogen peroxide, Anderson Packaging, USA). Color was measured with a spectrophotometer (Vita Easyshade, Vita Zahnfabrik, Germany) and the shade guide (Vitapan Classical, Vita Zahnfabrik, Germany). After measuring the color, brackets (Abzil Standard, Abzil, 3M) were bonded to the teeth and these submitted to bleaching. After this procedure the brackets were removed and a new color measurement was performed. Results: There was a reduction in the values of Δa and Δb, as well as an increase in ΔL. The groups B and E, showed statistically significant differences in each of the parameters evaluated with the spectrophotometer (p<0.05). With the Shade Guide, all groups showed statistically significant differences compared to the control (p<0.05). Conclusion: All bleaching agents promoted color change in the dental portion covered by the orthodontic appliance.

Metodologia: Cinquenta incisivos bovinos foram divididos aleatoriamente em 5 grupos (n=10) de acordo com o agente clareador utilizado: Grupo A: controle (mantido em saliva artificial durante todo o período experimental); Grupo B: Opalescence Boost (38% peróxido de hidrogênio, Ultradent Products, Inc., South Jordan, UT, USA); Grupo C: Power Bleaching (37% carbamide peroxide, BM4, Brasil); Grupo D: Opalescence Treswhite Ortho (8% peróxido de hidrogênio, Ultradent, Opal Orthodontics, South Jordan, Utah) e o Grupo E: 3D White Whitestrips Oral-B (10% hydrogen peroxide, Anderson Packaging, Rockford, IL, US). A mensuração inicial da cor foi realizada com o espectrofotômetro (Vita Easyshade, Vita Zahnfabrik, Germany), utilizando o sistema CIELab, e com a escala de cores Vitapan Classical, Vita Zahnfabrik, Germany. Após a verificação da cor, bráquetes metálicos (Abzil Standard Edgewise Agile, Abzil, 3M) foram colados à superfície dental e os dentes submetidos às diferentes técnicas clareadoras. Após esse procedimento, os acessórios ortodônticos foram removidos e uma nova mensuração da cor realizada. Resultados: Os grupos apresentaram uma redução dos parâmetros Δa (amarelo) e Δb (vermelho), com um aumento do ΔL (luminosidade). Os grupos B e E apresentaram diferença estatística significante em todos os parâmetros avaliados com o espectrofotômetro (p<0,05). Por meio da análise com a escala Vita Clássica, todos os grupos apresentaram diferença estatística significante em relação ao grupo controle (p<0,05).
