Resumo: This study focus on the elaboration of a set of sustainable indicators to be used on local and regional scales, by the segments of the touristic activity known as ecotourism and rural tourism. The set of indicators were aplied in the district of Aldeia Velha and the neighboring region, specially in the county of Silva Jardim, RJ. The research followed two stages: the first one consulting tourism specialists and professionals, regarding their sustainment and related areas; the second, consulting local agents acting in government, tourism and environment. The consultations were mainly done through a form sent by electronic mail. The table of answers resulted in a set of 12 sustainable indicators for the research area. Indicators with local characteristics were listed for future use in the region. The methodology applied establishes a basic group of indicators that can be used for selection of sustainable indicators for ecotourism and rural tourism in any area with similar characteristics to those of Aldeia Velha and the surrounding area.

A localidade para a qual metodologia foi aplicada pioneiramente é o distrito de Aldeia Velha e a região do entorno, no município de Silva Jardim, RJ. A pesquisa foi conduzida em duas etapas de consultas: a primeira junto a especialistas e profissionais em turismo, sua sustentabilidade e áreas afins; a segunda junto aos atores locais com atuação no poder público, turismo e meio ambiente. As consultas a cada especialista ou profissional foram, em sua grande maioria, feitas através de um formulário enviado por correio eletrônico, com o percentual de respostas surpreendente. A tabulação das respostas resultou em um conjunto de 12 indicadores de sustentabilidade para a região pesquisada; outros indicadores com características locais foram elencados para uso futuro na região.
