Nas linhas do dispositivo: crime de tráfico de drogas e o "sujeito-traficante" no discurso do Estado de S. Paulo entre 1964 e 2007

This dissertation investigates the criminalization discourses of “drug dealing” in Brazil from 1964 to 2007 and the production of the “drug dealer subject”. Its general goal is the analysis of the “drug dealer subject” discourses materialized in O Estado de S. Paulo newspaper. Thereunto, the theoretical reference used was Michel Foucault’s archaeo-genealogy, approaching the apparatus network and the Brazilian juridical legal discourse archive that built the criminalization of drug dealing in Brazil and the emergence of the “drug dealer subject” in the Brazilian incorporation of the “war against drugs” as well as described the “demonization” process that produced the “drug dealer subject” on the Estado de S. Paulo cover. The analysis corpus is the media apparatus, specifically the discourses about the drug dealer materialized on the covers of O Estado de S. Paulo published from 1964 to 2007. The research hypothesis is that, despite some displacements, the discourses about the “drug dealer subject” are engendered by deep stigmatization and carry the marks of knowledge-power (legal, medical, prisional, pedagogical, media), producing “delinquency” by a series of statements of criminality and abnormality, from the biopolitical government and discipline order. It was still possible to identify the strategy of Estadão’s discourse, from the end of the XX century and the beginning of the XXI century, in reduplicate events of a war between police and drug dealer in the underprivileged urban outskirts of Brazil, in which the drug dealer is approached as the “enemy to be fought” rather than as a dealer of “illegal substances”, which points to a “state racism”, that legitimizes increasingly repressive governmental measures against the poorest and blackest population in Brazil (police lethality, fundamental rights violation and increase of criminal penalties).
