Resumo: Obesity in adults is a major public health problem in Brazil and in the world and is related to several comorbidities, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer. The aim of this study was to identify factors associated with the risk of incidence of overweight adults in the city of Firminópolis, Goiás. This is a longitudinal study occurred in 2002 (phase 1) and 2015/2016 (phase 2). The sample of this study consisted of 685 individuals of both sexes, aged over 18 years, 33.7% male and 66.3 % female. After 13 years of follow-up, the same individuals were reevaluated in demographics, socio-demographic, dietary intake and lifestyle. We evaluated the weight gain by the di fference between the measurements in phase 1 and phase 2, the nutritional status by body mass index and abdominal obesity by waist circumference. The average weight gain was 5.9 kg in 13 years. In the total sample, the eutrophic rate rose from 50.9% to 30.2% (p<0.001), 34.6% overweight to 38.4% (p=0.067) and obesity of 14.5% to 31.4% (p<0.001). The cumulative incidence of overweight in 13 years was 19.7% and total obesity was 19.4%. Individuals of the age groups 50-64 years and ≥65 years had reduced risk of being overweight by 60% and 85%, respectively, compared to individuals aged between 18 and 33 years. Those of the second quartile of fat intake had reduced the risk by 41% when compared to the lowest quartile. Individuals who did not consume alcohol in phase 1 had reduced risk by 42% when compared to those who consumed and those who were smokers in 2002 had 41% lower risk compared with those who never smoked. It was concluded that the factors associated with the risk of incidence of excess weight were the variables age, fat intake, alcohol consumption and smoking. Given the complexity of the origin of obesity and the results of yet conflicting studies are needed more longitudinal studies on the subject. The obesity prevention public health actions should occur early and need to sensitize the population to adopt healthy behaviors that long-term modify the incidence of overweight, avoiding its epidemic character as currently occurs.

O objetivo desse estudo foi identificar os fatores associados ao risco de incidência de excesso de peso em adultos do município de Firminópolis, Goiás. Trata-se de um estudo longitudinal ocorrido em 2002 (fase 1) e 2015/2016 (fase 2). A amostra do presente trabalho foi constituída por 685 indivíduos, de ambos os sexos, com idade acima de 18 anos, sendo 33,7% do sexo masculino e 66,3% do sexo feminino. Após os 13 anos de seguimento, os mesmos indivíduos foram reavaliados quanto aos dados antropométricos, sociodemográficos, consumo alimentar e estilo de vida. Avaliou-se o ganho de peso pela diferença entre as medidas na fase 1 e fase 2, o estado nutricional pelo índice de massa corporal e a obesidade abdominal pela circunferência da cintura. A média de ganho de peso foi de 5,9 Kg em 13 anos. Na amostra total, a taxa de eutrofia passou de 50,9% para 30,2% (p<0,001), o sobrepeso de 34,6% para 38,4% (p=0,067) e a obesidade de 14,5% para 31,4% (p<0,001). A incidência cumulativa de sobrepeso em 13 anos foi de 19,7% e de obesidade total foi de 19,4%. Os indivíduos das faixas etárias de 50 a 64 anos e ≥65 anos tiveram redução do risco de excesso de peso em 60% e 85%, respectivamente, se comparados aos indivíduos com idade entre 18 e 33 anos. Aqueles do segundo quartil de consumo de gordura tiveram redução do risco em 41% quando comparados aos do menor quartil. Os indivíduos que não consumiam bebida alcoólica na fase 1 tiveram redução do risco em 42% quando comparados aos que consumiam e aqueles que eram fumantes em 2002, tiveram 41% menor risco quando comparados aos que nunca fumaram. Concluiu-se que os fatores associados ao risco de incidência de excesso de peso foram as variáveis idade, consumo de gorduras, consumo de bebida alcoólica e tabagismo. Diante da complexidade da origem da obesidade e com os resultados dos estudos ainda conflitantes, são necessários mais estudos longitudinais sobre o tema. As ações de prevenção da obesidade em saúde pública devem ocorrer precocemente e precisam sensibilizar a população em adotar comportamentos saudáveis que a longo prazo modifiquem a incidência de excesso de peso, evitando seu caráter epidêmico como ocorre atualmente.Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de Goiás - FAPEGapplication/pdfporUniversidade Federal de GoiásPrograma de Pós-graduação em Nutrição e Saúde (FANUT)UFGBrasilFaculdade de Nutrição - FANUT (RG)http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessÍndice de massa corporalCircunferência da cinturaGanho de pesoObesidadeBody mass indexWaist circumferenceWeight gainObesityCIENCIAS DA SAUDE::NUTRICAOFatores associados à incidência de excesso de peso corporal: um estudo longitudinal com adultos de uma cidade de pequeno porte do centro-oeste do BrasilFactors associated with incidence body overweight: a longitudinal study with adults of a small city Brazil´ Midwestinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesis-30109707181642501066006006006009028001981735587154-1073001350029933100-961409807440757778reponame:Repositório Institucional da UFGinstname:Universidade Federal de Goiás (UFG)instacron:UFGLICENSElicense.txtlicense.txttext/plain;
