Resumo: Fatigue is a subjective phenomenon, characterized by a feeling of tiredness, being one of the most frequent symptoms in the postoperative period. Internationally, there is the scale Identity- Consequences Fatigue Scale (ICFS), multidimensional, specific to this population, composed of 29 items and five subscales. In Brazil, research on the consequences of the impact of fatigue on the lives of patients undergoing surgery are scarce. Moreover, their fatigue evaluation is difficult to perform, we suggest the analysis of this phenomenon by means of specific instruments and surgical population scales. Thus the cross-cultural adaptation and validation of specific assessment tools that phenomenon being, are necessary. PURPOSE. Perform cross-cultural adaptation to Brazilian Portuguese and validate the ICFS for fatigue assessment in surgical patients. METHODOLOGY. Methodological study of cross-cultural adaptation and validation of an assessment tool for postoperative fatigue, ICFS, linked to a scientific Project - multicenter technological "Fatigue in cancer patients: exploring the symptom in surgical patients and advancing in clinical patient care," approved by the Federal University of Goiás Research Ethics Committee and by the Association of Cancer Combat of Goiás Research Ethics Committee. The method is described in two stages: the first refers to the cross-cultural adaptation and the second for testing the psychometric properties. RESULTS. The ICFS was translated independently by two bilingual Brazilians, finding 31 items with disagreement among translators. After the consensus version was held back-translation by a bilingual native North American translator. This version was sent to the lead author of the instrument considering similar to the original version. Following the panel of judges evaluated and suggested modifications in sixteen items and followed. Finally, the pretest was in surgical patients, they considered to be the instrument understandable. Thus Obtained the Brazilian version of the Scale Identification and Consequences of Fatigue (EICF). In the validation phase EICF was applied 99 (ninety-nine) participants (n = 99, 61.6% postoperative), concomitantly the Piper Fatigue Scale-Revised (PIPER) and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). The analysis included assessing the internal consistency, convergent validity, concurrent and construct. The KMO test considered the minimum sample size. Identified the Identification of Fatigue scale with two subscales, and the Consequences of Fatigue scale with three subscales. Internal consistency for the subscales was very good (Cronbach α> 0.775). The scores of EICF positively correlated with the scores of the HADS scales and Piper. The Brazilian version EICF- showed - is valid for surgical patients and clinical treatment. We conclude that the Brazilian version of EICF is valid and reliable. FINAL. Obtained the end Scale Identification and Consequences of Fatigue - Brazilian version, culturally sensitive, valid and reliable, consisting of 29 items arranged in two dimensions and five subscales. A new tool for assessing fatigue surgical patients during the postoperative period will enable the improvement of the health care professional in this target population.

A new tool for assessing fatigue surgical patients during the postoperative period will enable the improvement of the health care professional in this target population. Submitted by Luciana Ferreira (lucgeral@gmail.com) on 2015-05-12T14:45:58Z No. of bitstreams: 2 Dissertação - Gabriela Ferreira de Oliveira - 2014.pdf: 6237570 bytes, checksum: 676cd692be8b9279dcfd666284a9465e (MD5) license_rdf: 23148 bytes, checksum: 9da0b6dfac957114c6a7714714b86306 (MD5)Approved for entry into archive by Luciana Ferreira (lucgeral@gmail.com) on 2015-05-12T14:48:08Z (GMT) No. of bitstreams: 2 Dissertação - Gabriela Ferreira de Oliveira - 2014.pdf: 6237570 bytes, checksum: 676cd692be8b9279dcfd666284a9465e (MD5) license_rdf: 23148 bytes, checksum: 9da0b6dfac957114c6a7714714b86306 (MD5)Made available in DSpace on 2015-05-12T14:48:08Z (GMT).
