Resumo: This dissertation presents a theoretical approach to financial mathematics and its powerful tools that enable the reader to recognize and solve problems related to financial investments, evaluate loans and opt for better investment options, through the two main types of capitalization: simple and compound. This work also seeks to show the great importance of its teaching, because it is a matter inserted in the daily lives of people, whether physical or legal. With the stabilization of the Brazilian economy because of the real plan, people now have easier access to credit, acquiring loans more frequently. This fact justifies a solid learning and future application of financial mathematics. Through its study students will be able to perform any financial transaction that may occur in their day to day or even to organize their finances.

Esse trabalho procura mostrar também a grande importância do ensino da matemática financeira, pois se trata de um assunto inserido no dia a dia das pessoas, sejam elas físicas ou jurídicas. Com a estabilização da economia brasileira em virtude do plano real, as pessoas passaram a ter acesso facilitado às linhas de crédito, adquirindo empréstimos com maior frequência, o que justifica uma sólida aprendizagem e futura aplicação da matemática financeira.
