A Hilda Furacão de Roberto Drummond: uma leitura sob a perspectiva alegórica de Walter Benjamin

This study sought to understand the possibility of reading an allegorical construction in Roberto Drummond's novel Hilda Furacão, published in 1991, in the light of Benjaminian allegory. The main objective was to investigate the intricacies that make up the novel, from the perspective of the aforementioned allegory, and, specifically, to identify historical elements present in the novel that contributed to the construction of the allegory about the pre-1964 period, and to interpret them in the light of Walter Benjamin's concepts of allegory and Linda Hutcheon's concepts of metafiction. The theme is justified by the relevance of the period in which the work refers to and was contextualized, between 1959 and 1964, a turbulent period that preceded the Military Coup and the establishment of the Dictatorship in Brazil, with events occurring two decades before the publication of this book, when the climate of political instability and arbitrariness already existed. The research adopted a qualitative perspective as its methodology, based on a bibliographical review, mobilizing the concepts mentioned above. As a research problem, the following question was formulated: Is there an allegorical perspective in the Benjaminian sense that can be considered a reading key for an analysis of Roberto Drummond's Hilda Furação? The dissertation was structured into four chapters: the first addressed the intersection between History and Fiction in Hilda Furacão, contextualizing the novel in dialogue with allegory; the second examined the concept of allegory, according to Walter Benjamin; and the third analyzed excerpts from Drummond's work with a view to the possibility of Benjaminian allegory manifesting itself as a key to reading the narrative, based on fragments of the novel that portrayed the context of the pre-revolutionary years of 1964, with all the political and military movement, thus being steps that provoked the installation of the Military Dictatorship from Belo Horizonte-MG. The fourth chapter portrays the claim that Hilda existed both historically and factually, as the character Hilda Furacão, and as Hilda Histórica, and how her story provided a political, social and cultural reflection. Among the results, it was found that the narrative exposes issues affecting society which corroborate the relevance of the allegorical and metafictional perspective to understanding the period in which the novel is based and beyond, the possibility of undertaking other readings, since these favor new horizons for social reception and understanding of the complexity of history and how literature can be a tool for raising awareness.
