The agricultural products are important to help the economy of a country, especially if they are items to export. That´s the case of brazilian coffee. But to remain competitive is not an easy task: producers must follow some orientations, like establishing high level of quality (ISO 9000 series), observing environmental rules (ISO 14000 series and the law of many countries). Recently, another aspect also needs producer´s attention: the safety work norms (OHSAS 18000 series and laws). This dissertation studies the level of a coffee´s culture workers perceived safety, considering the perceived risks of their activities (physical risks, chemical risks, biological risks, ergonomic risks and accident risks). The study had three phases. First, the managers of the farm were interviewed. Second, a survey with 148 farm workers was conduced. Third, aspects of safety were measured with the proper instruments by the researcher. The results showed that the perceived safety were influenced by chemical risks, accident risks, level of training and prior experience with safety activities. This shows that farm managers must invest hard on training their workers, so that productivity rises and accidents and deaths diminished.
