The work in question focused on an investigation and theoretical journey based on the concept of femininity, retrieved from the works of Sigmund Freud and widely discussed in the psychoanalytic field and other fields of knowledge. We started by investigating Freud's text in its representation of femininity as a process of the girl's psychosexual development and the "becoming a woman", where femininity and the feminine sometimes blur. We also explore femininity as a symbol of what would present itself as an insurmountable limit in the human psyche, which Freud called the "rock of castration". Another avenue we followed is the proposition of some authors who invert this concept, giving femininity an original and organizing character of the psyche; thus, in this conception, the symbolic organizer would no longer be the phallus. With this, we intend to problematize the structure marked by forceful love, virility, and domination, its consequent naturalization, and alignment with patriarchal culture. The objective is to find strategic uses for the concept of femininity, based on the disputes over its meaning in the psychoanalytic field and other knowledge areas, such as feminist theory, queer theory, and schizoanalysis, which also discuss and construct theoretical and political positions about this concept, with repercussions in gender studies, human sciences, medical sciences, psychological clinics, and social movements. We seek to make a critical reading and advance concerning essentializing models of body and thought. For this journey, we used cartography, a research method that aims to map the social field through formations of desire, fields of knowledge and their movements: power relations, narrative disputes, capacity to enunciate, ways of life, and practices.
