Resumo: The research aimed to identify the tensions and conflicts existing in the catholic religious field in the city of Imperatriz-MA. Based on Pierre Bourdieu's contributions to religious studies, we conducted a socio-historical analysis, observing the transformations in the brazilian catholic scenario and their implications for catholicism in the city of Imperatriz, as well as the resulting conflicts, tensions, and conclusions. These conflicts are observed from the emergence and expansion of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal (RCC) and its accommodation in the religious field. This religious movement, with practices similar to those of Pentecostals, has transformed and continues to transform the catholic religious field through strategies that can be observed using Bourdieusian categories such as field, habitus, and capital. Through interviews, we sought to understand the motivations for the divergences and conflicts existing in the field. Through concessions and demands from the Catholic Church, the RCC continues to expand within catholicism in Imperatriz, encompassing laypeople and priests within its fold and forcing other catholic groups and movements to adapt to it or cease their activities.

Baseando-se nas contribuições de Pierre Bourdieu nos estudos das religiões, realizamos uma análise sócio-histórica, observando as transformações causadas no cenário católico brasileiro e suas implicações no catolicismo da cidade de Imperatriz e consequente conflitos, tensões e as conclusões resultantes. Estes conflitos são observados a partir do surgimento e expansão da Renovação Carismática Católica (Rcc) e sua acomodação no campo religioso. Este movimento religioso, com práticas semelhantes aos pentecostais, transformaram e continuam a transformar o campo religioso católico através de estratégias que podem ser observadas apoiado nas categorias bourdieusianas como campo, habitus e capital. Com a realização de entrevistas foi buscado entender as motivações das divergências e conflitos existentes no campo.
