Resumo: The study searches for comprehension of meanings of body for people with diabetes mellitus type 2. The qualitative research, in phenomenological approach, inscribes as method. Theparticipants of this study are 13 persons with diabetes mellitus type 2, with age above 40 years and more than two years living with this disease; they are all users of one public center health, in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. The data were collected by an opened interview guided bythe question: Tell me: how do you percept your body after the diabetes. At the moment of the meeting, the gestures, the tonality of the voice, the silence, among others manifestations of the being had been observed. After the interviews, the descriptions were submitted to a phenomenological analyze. The final construction of results contemplated the following categories and subcategories: The concretize of the disease in the body: the diabetes doesnt send message and body signaled by the disease; Body and diabetes in the daily of life:day by day with diabetes: you must be subjected to; the daily in world with the other and The art of : being face to face: the search of comprehension of being sick (contemplating: the causes of the disease and the classification of the disease) and resiliency: I go taking the life and wanting to live more and more. The descriptions arent related to the sick organism, but to the corporeity as singular way to inhabit the world. Perceptions of body for the people with diabetes translates the unit and sensitivity of the being disclosed in the doubleperspective of disease, in the fragile and/or signaled body, repercussions of the disease in day by day, and the resiliency. Its body is fear and pain, but its also meeting with its identity and the others. The comprehension of the studied phenomenon allows new possibilities. Strategiesas to include or extend the reflections or practices about authentic body care, since childhood by the professional education could lead to prevent diseases related to lifestyle and to change the focus of health attention on pathology to the person that experiences the sickness process.
