The dissertation seeks to understand what are the subjective senses involved in political participation for people with mental suffering who participate in the Association of Users of Mental Health Services of Minas Gerais, in the city of Belo Horizonte. The theoretical references that guide the work are rooted in the assumptions of Social Psychology (Lane, 1989), which considers the human being in its social and historical dimension. Political participation is considered in its civic dimension, as presented by Teixeira (1997). To sew our discussion, we worked with the concept of subjective senses developed by González Rey and propositions of the theory of recognition presented by Axel Honneth. Thus, we seek to identify the elements involved in the subjective sense of political participation; discuss possible areas of meaning related to political participation of persons with mental suffering in the area studied; establish theoretical links between the theory of recognition (Honneth, 2009) and the production of subjective senses (González Rey, 2005a) in relation to political participation, based on empirical observation. In this way, we performed a case study, with participant observation with members of that association and conversational dynamics with some of the members of the entity. The discussion that we propose in this paper points to the importance of the subjective aspects that permeate the processes of political construction. The results demonstrate the importance of considering the subjective processes in dialectical movement with the sociopolitical aspects in studies that aim to understand the phenomena of social struggle.
