Resumo: In this thesis I seek to delve into some aspects of the modernity of Gilka Machado's lyricism based on the traits: "sensualism", "symbolism", "romantic anarchism", "feminine loving feeling", "unfolding the self in masks" and "voluptuousness-Anguish” Based on these notions, related to concepts that tried to characterize the literary attitude in modernity (negativity, derealization, empty transcendence and the truth of masks), I discuss the dynamics of this attitude in his poetics. For this, I analyze the poems “Falando à lua” and “Beijo”, which I call debut poetry, as well as rescue two short stories “O Poeta e a Dor” and “Tempestades”, also included in the list of the first writings. I deepen and relate “romantic anarchism”, “symbolism”, “feminine feeling of love” and intertextual dialogues, as an analytical basis for the study of the poems “Cabelos Negros”, “Aranhol Verde”, “Símbolos”, “Quem és tu”, “ Meu amor”, “Ansia de Azul”, “Ao Som de um Sino” and “Esfolhada”; and, finally, I discuss the switching of masks in the relations between: sincerity and representation (poems: “Possa eu da Palavra os Agreste Sons” and “Comigo Mesma”), biography and poetic self-modeling (rescuing data from his biography) and the representation of the multiple female personas (poems: “A ausência tua”, “Nesta ausência que me excita” and “Sensual”).

A partir dessas noções, relacionadas a conceitos que tentaram caracterizar a atitude literária na Modernidade (a negatividade, a desrealização, a transcendência vazia e a verdade das máscaras), discuto as dinâmicas desta atitude em sua poética. Para isso, analiso os poemas “Falando à Lua” e “Beijo”, aos quais chamo de poesia de estreia, bem como resgato dois pequenos contos “O Poeta e a Dor” e “Tempestades”, incluídos também no rol dos primeiros escritos.
