Um Brasil do pretérito imperfeito: perspectiva outra a partir de Silviano Santiago

This doctoral thesis aims to conceptualize another perspective of Brazil called "Brasil do pretérito imperfeito" starting from the text "Nó, nós" (2020) by the writer and intellectual Silviano Santiago, as well as other texts selected by the aforementioned author, from a decolonial based biographic border critical theorization. For this purpose, the present work, of eminently bibliographical methodology, presents a structure divided into three chapters chosen shedding light on the following historical and thematic clippings focused on Brazil since the political actuality of the 21st century, The Portuguese invasion in XV: I. Bolsonarism (2018-2023), II. Modernism (1922-2022) and III. Formation (1500-1959). The tripartite division above is justified by the need to think about other possibilities through reasons, practices and modern/colonial paradigms naturalized here as if they were the only possible way of existence and thought, particularly, in relation to the particularities of our own issues, whether they are political, artistic-literary or even at the core of our formation processes. Moreover, the central axis of this thesis is based on the hypothesis that Silviano Santiago has been for decades, consciously or not, formulating another idea of Brazil in his writings, being this, for my decolonial theorization, the premise of um Brasil do pretérito imperfeito. That is, a country that already existed before the supposed discovery by the Europeans, which was invaded, raped, kidnapped and that of these colonial differences until today, in the 21st century, we can not get rid of content in order to undermine the deep axes of inequality, prejudices and hegemonies that co-opt us daily. For this, in the first chapter, "BRASIL DO PRETÉRITO IMPERFEITO (2018-2023): para Bolsonaro a Bíblia pesa mais que a constituição," I use the concepts of colonial power matrix, body and geo-politics and decolonial political ethics. In the second chapter, "BRASIL DO PRETÉRITO IMPERFEITO (1922-2022): modernismo aberto para des-balanço," I use the decolonial options, epistemic disobedience, detachment and provincialization of Europe. Finally, in the third chapter, "BRASIL DO PRETÉRITO IMPERFEITO (1500-1959): fisiologia da des-formação", I support myself in the other paradigm, in self-thinking and deformation. Therefore, through the conjunction between the three mentioned chapters, the constant presence of Silviano and the decolonial studies, I seek to problematize how Brazil, until today, it has not managed to solve many of its questions originated from outside by colonial differences, often reproducing them to the last power in the most varied areas of life and knowledge in the country.
