This research proposes an analysis of the reimagining of the character Penelope in the works A vida submarina and Da arte das armadilhas by Ana Martins Marques. The poems that constitute the corpus of this study present the Greek character from a new perspective: there is a redefinition of waiting and of Penelope herself as seen through the eyes of a 21st-century writer, a woman who no longer weaves but writes and no longer needs to wait. This research involves an in-depth exploration, using bibliographic methodology, into the field of contemporary literature, its intertextuality with texts from the literary tradition, and, finally, the works of the poet. To achieve this, we will draw upon the studies of Célia Pedrosa (2005; 2015; 2010) and Regina Dalcastagnè (2012) regarding the characteristics of contemporary Brazilian literature, Giorgio Agamben (2007; 2009) and Thomas S. Eliot's (1989) reflections on the concept of contemporaneity, and Fernando P. Amaral's (2004) insights into understanding tradition and its relationship with the present. In addition to these sources, in order to gain a more refined perspective on poetry, we will employ the elaborations of Parejo (2002) and Pérez Bowie (1994) on metalanguage, as well as the formulations of Octavio Paz (1982; 1986) and Domenique Combe (1992) on the long poem. The analysis of the poems in question is seen as a significant contribution to the broader field of contemporary literature studies, and more specifically, to the literature of female authorship, as it aims to increase the visibility of female writers by examining their poetry and seeking to understand the marks of this writing in the works under scrutiny.
