The objective of this study is to investigate the curly hair of Black women as a communicational, symbolic, and political element, understanding it as a marker of identity, resistance, and affirmation. The study was conducted in a neighborhood in the municipality of Poconé (MT), with Black women undergoing hair transition, valuing their memories and narratives. The methodology adopted was narrative, associated with the concept of 'escrevivência' by Conceição Evaristo, allowing individual experiences to become a legitimate source of knowledge and collective memory. The interviews revealed how Afro hair is crossed by historical stigmas and practices of aesthetic racism, but also how it becomes a space of pride, belonging, and subjective reconstruction. The work articulates the experiences of the participants, the master's student, and theoretical reflections from authors such as Stuart Hall (2006), Frantz Fanon (2008), bell hooks (2005; 2019), Nilma Lino Gomes (2002; 2006; 2017; 2019), Grada Kilomba (2019), Lélia Gonzalez (1982;1984), Djamila Ribeiro (2017; 2018) and Sueli Carneiro (2005) demonstrating that embracing natural hair is a political, aesthetic, and spiritual gesture that challenges the logic of whiteness and reinscribes Black identity in its power.
