A questão fundamental reside entre a livre escolha e a aceitação do destino, isto é, entre o Indivíduo e o Geral. O elemento comum entre os modos do trágico é a culpa, cujo desenvolvimento faz-se presente nos personagens Édipo e Hamlet: o primeiro representa o trágico antigo, e o segundo o trágico moderno. A leitura comparada dessas tragédias, partindo do pressuposto que ambos os heróis estão conectados pelo conceito de culpa, sustenta a tese kierkegaardiana segundo a qual a colisão entre estes dois mundos – antigo e moderno – têm algo em comum: o trágico. No entanto, a culpa em Édipo é indubitavelmente estética, e em Hamlet, o paradigma do homem moderno, a culpa tende a ser ética. O objetivo desta pesquisa é desenvolver estes dois tipos de culpa trágica a partir da leitura que Kierkegaard faz do fenômeno trágico, defendendo a ideia de que a culpa em Hamlet é estética.According to Kierkegaard, no matter how much the world has been changed, the Ancient Tragic remains in the Modern Tragic. The fundamental question lies between free choice and acceptance of destiny, that is, between the Individual and the General. The common element between the types of tragic is guilt, whose development is present in the characters Oedipus and Hamlet: the first one represents the ancient drama and the second one is modern drama. The comparative study of these tragedies claims the premise that both heroes are connected by the concept of guilt. And this supports Kierkegaard's thesis which the collision between these two worlds – Anciently and Modernity – has something in common: the tragic. However, guilt in Oedipus is undoubtedly aesthetic, and in Hamlet, the paradigm of modern man, guilt tends to be ethical.
