(“Deixe-me entrar!”) é o grito de Cathy, fantasma que vaga solitária pela charneca, e que quer entrar em Wuthering Heights. Porém, é também o grito do outsider que gostaria de ser incluído; da mulher que quer ser parte da sociedade, tendo escolhas e oportunidades; da mulher que quer acesso à educação, aos livros, à escrita, ao poder de olhar (e não apenas ser olhada); da mulher que quer usar a sua voz, sem precisar de um pseudônimo masculino ou de um narrador intermediário que controle o fluxo e o tempo de sua fala. Muito mais do que uma história de amor, Wuthering Heights parece ser uma narrativa de busca por inclusão, por identidade e por autonomia. Neste trabalho, busco encontrar no romance de Emily Brontë e em três de suas adaptações fílmicas (1939, 1992 e 2011) elementos que corroborem a ideia de que tanto a autora quanto os diretores mostram, por meio de suas obras, elementos das sociedades que lhes são contemporâneas. Para isto, recorro à Aleida Assmann e Halbwachs, entre outros teóricos, e busco elementos feministas e pós-coloniais no romance e nos filmes, para compreender como a arte traz em si aspectos das sociedades nas quais está inserida. O outsider visto em Heathcliff e o filme de Andrea Arnold (2011) parecem dialogar com estudos pós-coloniais, considerando o personagem de Brontë como um possível imigrante. O casamento de Cathy, no qual ela encontra sua decadência física e emocional, a relação das mulheres com a linguagem e o olhar, são aspectos que estão presentes no romance e nas adaptações e parecem mostrar essa busca por aceitação, autonomia e inclusão.Let me in!” is Cathy’s cry, a ghost that wanders alone through the moors and wants to enter Wuthering Heights. However, it is also (and perhaps that explains the reason why the book was so polemical) the cry of the outsider, who would like to be included. A cry of the woman who wants to be a part of the society and does not want to annul herself in order to survive, but instead would like to have choices and opportunities. It is a cry of the woman who wants to have access to education, books, writing, and the power to look (and not only be looked at). It is the cry of the woman who wants to be able to use her voice, without needing a male pseudonym or an intermediary narrator to control the flow and time of her speech. A lot more than a love story, Wuthering Heights seems to be a search for inclusion, identity and autonomy. On this work, I try to find on Emily Brontë’s novel and three of its filmic adaptations (1939, 1992 e 2011) elements to confirm the idea that the author as well as the directors show, through their work, elements of the societies which they were/ are part of. In order to do so, I turn to Aleida Assmann and Halbwachs, among other experts, and I look for feminist and post colonial elements on the novel and the films, to understand how art brings in itself aspects of the societies is it part of. The outsider seen in Heathcliff and Andrea Arnold’s film (2011) seem to dialogue with post colonial studies, considering Brontë’s character as a possible immigrant.
