This monography, by the research line Teaching History and Historical Knowledge, has as its objective to discuss the globality and the racialization on the Late Middle Agee’s travel literature by the source The Travels of Sir John Mandeville, also know Mandeville’s Travels, from the XIV century. My primary sources for the study of the work are the editions of the book, mainly the Braziliam edition elaborated and translated by Susani Silveira Lemos França. The source analysis will be the global history, comparing the book’s content with the concepts of globality and racialization. The globality is understood as the perception that the diverse world’s parts are linked by temporal and spatial connectivities. The racialization in the Late Middle Ages and travel literature context is understood as the construction of identities to qualify other human groups in biblical genealogies by their geographic location and their religious beliefs. These racialized groups have their genealogies, relations and connections described through divergence (groups with same origins, but that have differentiated by the history), convergence (groups with different origins, but that have converged throughout history), contagion (groups that cross the borders and “destroy” the societies internally) and systems (the organization of great empires) in the XIV traveler’s global consciousness. In this way, this study will contribute to the advancement of global history studies and their applicability to the Middle Ages.
