Resumo: This dissertation examines the correlation between police lethality and the political advancement of the far-right in Brazil from 2018 to 2022. To this end, relevant data from the Brazilian Public Security Forum were analyzed, demonstrating that during this period, deaths caused by police activity totaled nearly 32,000, with most victims being young Black men. It also highlights the high number of violent deaths of police officers, the majority of whom were also Black men, revealing a racial profile among both the targets of police lethality and police victimization. These data led to the following research question: Is there a relationship between police lethality and the political advancement of the far-right in Brazil during the period of 2018 to 2022? The hypothesis considers the existence of a correlation between the political rise of the farright in Brazil and the increase in police lethality, a correlation made possible by an ideological structure of domination inherited from European colonialism, later reorganized and reinforced by the far-right populist agenda that governed Brazil during the highlighted period. For this dissertation, the foundational authors include Luciano Oliveira, Hannah Arendt, Nicos Poulantzas, and other scholars who contribute to a post-colonial perspective on human rights. The general objective of this dissertation was to examine whether there is a relationship between police lethality and the political rise of the far-right in Brazil, to, based on police lethality data and the adopted premises, assess the existence of and understand the correlation between these phenomena. Methodologically, the historical evolutionary and comparative methods were used, with an exploratory objective, viewed through the epistemology of postcolonialism. The research techniques applied included bibliographical and documentary analysis, drawing upon scientific articles, books, theses, dissertations, news reports, and the 13th to 18th editions of the Brazilian Public Security Yearbooks, published by the Brazilian Public Security Forum. Finally, the dissertation concludes by confirming the historical correlation between colonial violence and police violence in Brazil, which continues to affect the same social classes and locations as before.
