Resumo: The main aim of this work was to verify if weather the development of moral thinking is necessary to the development of the religious thinking. To attain this intend it was first needed to built and validate an objective instrument to investigate the religious judgment. Two theories are the groundwork of this study: The Moral Judgment on Justice, a developmental theory elaborated by Kohlberg (1969), and the Development of Religious Judgment, a theory elaborated by Oser e Gmünder (1991). Both of them follow the same piagetian assumptions. Consequently, three studies were necessary to attain the main aim. The two first studies intended for construct and validate the Religious Judgment Test (TJR) and the third study proposed for verify the relation between moral and religious thinking. The TJR was built based on Oser e Gmünder (1991) three dilemmas. After each of these dilemmas there are items consisted of affirmatives that corresponds to the religious judgment theory stages. The participants should indicate with a Likert scale the importance of each affirmative. Confidence coefficient and items internal consistence authorize the instrument construct validation. 206 adolescents and University students participated. Factorial analyses were made for each dilemma and both the T-test and ANOVA permit verify the influence of social demographic data on participants scores found on scales factors. The results support items allocation on factors only with three components, and not with five components as indicated by theory. As a result, both Paul-dilemma and Chance-dilemma presented adequate psychometric parameter, while the Theodicy-dilemma did not present the same adequacy and was removed from posterior analyses. 135 adolescents and University students participated on the second study which had a confirmatory character. The TJR with the modifications realized by means of the first study was applied. Once again, the items presented a more adequate organization with three components. It indicates a level development of religious judgment. Level 1 should be formed by the two initial stages, Level 2 outlined by the third stage and Level 3 should be composed by the last two stages. The third study propose to verify if moral thinking is a necessary condition to religious thinking. Participated 293 young people within the follow ages groups: 16-17 years old; 20-12 years old, and 24-25 years old. The instruments applied were: a demographic questionnaire, the DIT and the TJR. It was assumed that the Wilcoxon test would confirm that the participants should progress first on moral thinking than on religious thinking. The results revealed that, significantly, the great part of the participants score higher on moral thinking than on religious thinking. However, 49 participants followed a contrary and unexpected direction. In this case, it might be considered that the moral thinking is not restricted by Justice, and that it is possible that others variables would have influenced in the study.
