This essay investigates the educational material of the Programa Escola do Radio (Radio School Program), a long distance literacy proposal directed to youngsters and adults implemented in the State of Paraíba in 2002. The investigation sought to notice the relationships between the cultural practices of the town of Guarabira/PB and the educational materials that the prople being taught have used. This study targeted answering the following question: did educational materials used by scola do Radio, accomplishing in the research a discussion about method trough the articulation between the object of this study and the conceptual appropriations that have made it possible to ponder upon this educational analysis from the historic and cultural perspectives. This path was nediated through the dialogue between the concepts of cultural practices and appropriation developed by the historian Roger Chartier and the theoretical proposals of the educator Paulo Freire, over the appropriation of the anthropological concept of culture as means of the production knowledge in literacy of yiungsters and aduklts. The incursion through the educational materials of the Programa Escola do Radio allowed me to conclude that the work produced by its educacional proposal was not materialized in its practice in the town of Guarabira. The research point that the educational materials of the program, which did not consider the cultural practices of the place where the individuals used it, became an apathetic reading material when it relates to the production of a knowledge of the language that mediates the construction of the senses of its social use. This fact uncharacterize the relationship between appropriation and production of culture, concepts that make educational material a product of human relations, and therefore, built by the epistemological principle that seeks in the individual and their day-to-day cultural practices the meaning of its formulation.
