Resumo: Linked to “Metaphors, Discursive Genre and Argumentation” project, this study aimed to survey the linguistic expressions that update the metaphors of AIDS, making a linguistic-discursive reading of data. We used, as theoretical support, the Conceptual Metaphor Theory, designed by Lakoff and Johnson (1980; 1999); Kövecses (2002; 2005); Espíndola (2001); Sardinha (2007) and others. Our hypothesis was that the metaphors of AIDS may not be the same in 3 (three) decades of reports from VEJA and Super Interessante magazines. In our analysis, we found that disease was conceptualized in terms of military war – AIDS IS WAR – in 30 reports of 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. Another metaphor – AIDS IS PUNISHMENT – was updated only in two reports of 1980s.

Another metaphor – AIDS IS PUNISHMENT – was updated only in two reports of 1980s.Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPESVinculada ao projeto Metáforas, Gêneros Discursivos e Argumentação do LASPRAT (Laboratório Semântico-Pragmático de Textos), esta pesquisa objetivou fazer um levantamento das expressões linguísticas que atualizam as metáforas da AIDS, realizando uma leitura linguístico-discursiva dos dados. Para tanto, utilizamos, como suporte teórico, a Teoria da Metáfora Conceptual, na concepção de Lakoff e Johnson (1980); Kövecses (2002); Espíndola (2011); Sardinha (2007) entre outros. A nossa hipótese foi a de que as metáforas da AIDS podem não ser as mesmas nas 3 (três) décadas de reportagens das revistas VEJA e Super Interessante. No corpus analisado, verificamos que a doença foi conceptualizada em termos de um embate militar – AIDS É GUERRA – em 30 reportagens das décadas de 1980, 1990 e 2000.
