Dilson Florêncio: sua trajetória e influência no desenvolvimento do saxofone erudito no Brasil

This research aims to investigate the importance and influence of the teacher and saxophonist Dilson Florêncio - considered by the specialized community as a reference for the Brazilian classical saxophone. However, the existing biblography about him brings only short citations, making it difficult to measure the dimension of his influence on saxophone teaching and performance in Brazil. Given this and other gaps, a qualitative approach was chosen as a methodology for the development of this paper, through the technique of interviews and bibliographical research. This being considered, the first chapter outlines the trajectory of the classical saxophone in Brazil, from its arrival until its incorporation in the ranks of university, including the main composers who wrote for this instrument and the main interpreters. The second chapter focus on rebuilding the trajectory of Dilson Florêncio as a educator and as a saxophonist, through deep analisys of his main works and performances. Then, the third chapter shows some of his contributions and what has changed in the classical saxophone scene in Brazil after him. The dimension of his legacy and its influence is discussed through interviews with some former students. Florêncio has devoted more than thirty years to teaching, has taught at three different universities, and, as a performer, with only orchestra and symphony band, was soloist in more than seventy concerts. This article hopes to contribute with a musicological organization of facts to broaden the understanding of the trajectory of this saxophonist and his legacy.
