Resumo: | The collection of fruits and seeds for human and animal feeding has been practiced for centuries in the Caatinga northeastern. In the Paraiba Caatinga, it is common to find small communities that have joined together in a cooperative, to explore nature's resource that is a source of income and maintenance of sustainable extractivism. In view of this, the present study aims to diagnose the perception of the farmers of the. Community on the importance of umbuzeiro (Spondias tuberosa A. Câmara). Initially visits were made in the community with the intention of exposing the idea and performing. The research was conducted during the period from March 2016 to May 2016. We applied structured questionnaires, previously made with the objective of involving and extracting the maximum information from the whole community. With the data in hand, figures were drawn which demonstrate the perception of cooperative farmers about the extraction of umbu. Incomplete first grade (47%), followed by high school (40%). As regards the process of extraction of umbu by Community producers, a number of uses may be indicated, with the main destinations being the pulp industry (34%), family consumption (33%), animal feed (19%) and direct sales (14%). Regarding marketing, when the sale was made, the bag price of 3.0 kg varied between R$ 2,00 and R$ 2,50, and 62% of the producers consulted stated that they sell at a price of R$ 2,00, while 31% sell at R$ 2,50 and 7% at R$ 2,50. Of the producers that produce one hectare, 100% have another activity to supplement the income, among which: rice (85%), livestock (85%), handicrafts (7.5%) and others (7.5%). The relevant contribution of the research to stimulate the participation of the local community within a process with sustainable bases, considering that it, besides knowing the peculiarities of the environment in which it lives, must accept the exploration of umbu as a sustainable activity, so that Negative impacts are minimized and potential positive aspects. |

Na caatinga paraibana, é comum encontrar pequenas comunidades que se uniram em cooperativa, para explorar recurso da natureza que é fonte de renda e manutenção do extrativismo sustentável. Diante disto, o presente estudo objetiva diagnosticar a percepção dos agricultores da Comunidade Riacho da Serra, em São José do Sabugí - PB quanto à importância do umbuzeiro (Spondias tuberosa A. Câmara). Inicialmente foram realizadas visitas na comunidade com o intuito de expor a idéia e realizar. A pesquisa foi realizada durante o período de março de 2016 a maio de 2016. Foram aplicados questionários estruturados, confeccionados previamente com o objetivo de envolvendo e extrair o máximo de informações de toda a Comunidade. Com os dados em mãos, foram confeccionadas figuras que demonstram a percepção dos agricultores cooperados a cerca do extrativismo do umbu. Predomina o primeiro grau incompleto (47%), seguido do segundo grau completo (40%). Em relação ao processo de extração do umbu pelos produtores da Comunidade pode-se indicar vários usos, sendo os principais destinos a indústria de polpa (34%), consumo familiar (33%), alimento para os animais (19%) e venda direta (14%). No tocante a comercialização, quando houve a venda, o preço do saquinho de 3,0 kg variou entre R$ 2,00 e R$ 2,50, sendo que 62% do produtores consultados afirmaram que vendem pelo preço de R$ 2,00, enquanto 31% vendem a R$ 2,50 e 7% mais de R$ 2,50. Dos produtores que catam umbu, 100% têm outra atividade para complementar a renda, dentre quais: roça (85%), pecuária (85%), artesanato (7,5%) e outros (7,5%).
