This study aimed to map, identify obstacles and suggest improvements for the internal phase of the goods acquisition process, by traditional electronic bidding, at the Campina Grande Federal University. The inferences were materialized through the Business Process Modeling methodology, and the software used to graphically represent the modeling was the Bizagi. To assist the development of the mapping description, analysis, and validation, the methodology applied was an adaptation of SIPOC, a checklist based on ISO/TR 26.122 of 2008 for compliance verification, and the Value Added Analysis. Thus, this apparatus has helped on to identify the areas that need improvement and to suggest, among other issues, an optimized process, with a 17% reduction in the amount of activities. To analyze the implementation efficiency, the improved process went through a validation simulation, time analysis, and resource analysis, which presented useful information for management decision making. The results of this work make possible a better management of public purchases and help the University's mission of providing an efficient service for the society.
