Resumo: | The purpose of this study was to briefly approach the influence of the passions in moral and political philosophy of David Hume in his major work: A Treatise of Human Nature. It was presented initially Hume’s philosophy of passions, its types and characteristics: primary, secondary, direct, indirect, violent, and calm passions; causes and subjects of passions. Thereafter, it was analyzed the relationship between causality and necessity, the action and natural determinism, natural and moral evidence. Moreover, it was demonstrated the concernment of reason in Hume’s ethics, and its role in determining the individual moral behavior. Yet, it was discussed the purely instrumental role of the reason in human’s behavior matter, and a moral rationalism criticism by Hume. It was also exposed, from an analysis of the 3rd Treatise Book, the fundamental tenets of Hume, according to which man possesses a moral sense, is guided by feelings - pleasure and suffering - and the passions are the ultimate criterion to shape their actions. Finally, it was investigated the concepts of artifice and society, through the simultaneous examination of the origin of justice, property and government. |

Finally, it was investigated the concepts of artifice and society, through the simultaneous examination of the origin of justice, property and government.Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico - CNPqO nosso objetivo nesta Dissertação de Mestrado é fazer uma abordagem geral acerca da influência das paixões nas Filosofias Moral e Política de David Hume, em sua principal obra: o Tratado da Natureza Humana. Após uma breve exposição da biografia do filósofo, apresentamos, inicialmente, a filosofia humeana das paixões, seus tipos e características; paixões primárias, secundárias, diretas, indiretas, violentas, calmas; causas e objetos das paixões. Posteriormente, analisamos a relação entre causalidade e necessidade, ação e determinismo natural, evidência moral e evidência natural. Demonstramos, também, o lugar que a razão ocupa na ética humeana e qual a sua função na determinação do comportamento moral do indivíduo. Ainda, expomos o papel meramente instrumental que Hume confere à razão em matéria de conduta humana e a crítica do filósofo ao racionalismo moral. Em seguida, examinamos, a partir da análise do Livro III do Tratado, as teses fundamentais do filósofo, segundo as quais o homem possui um senso moral, é guiado por sentimentos - prazer e sofrimento - e encontra nas paixões o critério último de constituição de suas ações.
