Através de uma abordagem fundamentada na exploração bibliográfica, esta pesquisa expõe uma investigação advinda da relação entre o conceito de feiura e a impossibilidade de desvinculá-lo do contexto em que está inserido. Apoiado principalmente nos conceitos apresentados por Karl Rosenkranz (2015), Umberto Eco (2017) e Stephen Bayley (2012), este escrito conclui que a estética, emerge como uma ferramenta de poder político e criativo. Objetivando experimentar a produção de peças de design utilizando da estética do feio como ferramenta de desenvolvimento, a partir da análise do papel da feiura dentro do processo criativo. A primeira, sendo capaz de influenciar, por exemplo, ideias, costumes, comportamentos e crenças. Ao questionar a autoridade da acepção do que é belo e, por consequência, o seu lugar subalternizado, no cerne dessa relação de poder, a feiura pode apresentar-se como forma de opor tal hegemonia, funcionando, também, enquanto uma resistência anti-norma, um produto que contesta o padrão vigente. A segunda, através do desprendimento da tradicional espera pela imaculada beleza, é possível alcançar níveis de inovação e inventividade mais diversos, mostrando-se uma frutífera ferramenta de design.CAPESOften, the designation of what is ugly or beautiful in a given society is constituted through practices of manipulation, exercised by groups that manufacture, in subjective and objective terms, the aesthetic standards in force, thus guiding society's view of things. Through an approach based on bibliographic exploration, this research exposes an investigation arising from the relationship between the concept of ugliness and the impossibility of detaching it from the context in which it is inserted. Drawing mainly on the concepts presented by Karl Rosenkranz (2015), Umberto Eco (2017) and Stephen Bayley (2012), this writing concludes that aesthetics, emerges as a tool of political power and creation. Aiming to experiment the production of design pieces using the aesthetics of ugliness as a development tool, from the analysis of the role of ugliness in the creative process. The first, being able to influence, for example, ideas, customs, behaviour and beliefs. By questioning the authority of the meaning of what is beautiful and, consequently, its subordinated place at the heart of this power relation, ugliness can present itself as a way of opposing this hegemony, also functioning as an anti-standard resistance.
