Defesa : Curitiba, 28/02/2018Inclui referênciasResumo : Reconhecendo-se na produção literária um espaço de voz para a subjetividade humana, suas formas de dar sentido e apreender seu contexto, além de significá-lo, tendo como seu cerne uma carga de produção simbólica de verdade, a presente proposta de pesquisa se apresenta sob as perspectivas da história cultural a fim de investigar impactos e manifestações da subjetividade humana em relação às questões relacionadas às transformações impostas pelo contexto de época do final do século XIX inglês nas obras literárias The Body Snatcher (1884), Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886) e Markheim (1886), do autor escocês Robert Louis Stevenson, em suas possíveis construções de sentido de realidade e constituição de identidade humana e suas relações de consonância e transgressão às imposições e demandas sociais do período. Época de transição histórica em que a ciência, em seus avanços, associada ao racionalismo, clama pelo lugar de verdade outrora concedido à religião, e o individualismo se impõe em lugar de uma sociedade que, antes da Revolução Industrial e desenvolvimento do capitalismo, guiava a constituição do sujeito estruturada na coletividade, a segunda metade do século XIX se configura como um momento em que a identidade do que é ser humano e do que é a verdade está em crise evidente. Neste período, o desenvolvimento científico, sobretudo pela popularidade do darwinismo e de outros estudos científicos atrelados à questão da bilateralidade cerebral, ganha atenção e gera angústia de forma concomitante. As angústias diante do discurso da degenerescência, bem como o desconforto frente às respostas oferecidas pelas ciências, diferentes daquelas idealizadas no início do século e aquém, potencializam a dificuldade característica de momentos de transição contextual do homem; tal condição impõe e implica o definir-se para si mesmo e em relação ao outro, ao contexto, aos novos modos de vida, à urbanização, ao anonimato, à individuação e ao individualismo. As angústias geradas por tal configuração não seguem em silêncio, manifestando-se posicionamentos reacionários ao dogmatismo do cientificismo e outras características supracitadas do contexto de época nas obras literárias que servem como fonte de análise para a presente proposta de trabalho. Palavras-chave: Fim do século XIX vitoriano; Literatura e Contexto Histórico; Subjetividade.Abstract : Considered a way of expressing human subjectivity, capable of enlightening mankind ways of create an express meanings and ways of understanding – or not - the human being and its context , literature has a potential, symbolic and productive charge that generate modes of expressing reality in a particular way; that’s the reason why the proposal of this research work is based on the perspective of Cultural History, with the intention to investigate impacts and manifestations of mankind subjectivity regarding the historical changes imposed during the Victorian nineteenth century on the literary works The Body Snatcher (1884), Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886) and Markheim (1886), by the Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson, literary works analyzed at this material on its possible suggestions of meanings and creative possibilities of "Reading" and "creating" reality regarding the context in which they were written on the search for a (re)constitution of what it was the human identity and its relations of consonance and transgressions to the impositions and social demands of the mentioned period. Time of historical transitions in which advances in sciences, associated to rationalism, are claiming for the throne of truth once occupied by religions, and also time for individualism to impose itself in opposition to a society that once, before Industrial Revolution and rise of capitalism used to guide the constitution of the self based on its place on collectivity, the second half of nineteenth century defines itself as a moment in which the identity of what it is to be human and the reference about "truth" are facing undeniable crisis. At this time, scientific development, most of all by the explosive popularity of Darwinism and other scientific studies related to the dual-brain theory, calls attention and anguish concomitantly to itself. The anguish related to the scientific theory of degeneracy, as the uncomfortable feeling generated by the answers offered by Science about man and society, that are a bit different from those idealized in the beginning of the century and before that, increased the so-common tendency of moments of historical transition to destabilize mankind subjectivity; this condition imposes and implicates the definition of the self to itself, others and the social context, new models of life, urbanization, anonymity, individuation and individualism as an imperative. The restlessness generated by this configuration do not flows silently, and reactionaries rises their voices opposing to the scientific dogmatism and all other context particularities already mentioned above; this reactions are manifested on the literary works that are the source of analysis on the present material.
