Transport system’s planning is based almost exclusively on travel patterns and in the socioeconomic characteristics of users. However, the main Brazilian capitals are inhabited as well by age groups that are not economically active, where approximately 26% are children under 15 years old and 10% are elderly. The quality of the system and the main obstacles experienced by these groups of users can may be being disregarded in this planning. Children in the early childhood age, and especially children from 0 to 3 years old, have their brain development and other functions directly impacted by the way they move and experience everyday life. Their needs exert a great influence on the choice of transport mode that is going to be used. In this context, developing strategies that meet the expectations and needs of all users has become essential to improve the quality of the bus system, ensuring the maintenance of regular users and attracting new ones. With the purpose of discussing the obstacles and needs of the most vulnerable users from the point of view of urban mobility, this dissertation analyzes the perception of caregivers of children from 0 to 3 years old through a research with focus group and a complementary survey in the field. And, based on this identification, this work presents in its results the questions that need to be considered for the improvement of public transport by bus for early childhood.
