Resumo: The present research was elaborated with the intention of broadening the reflections about the field of study in Tourism and the nuances that involve the professional formation, at a higher level, of the turismologist. Due to its dynamic nature, the tourism universe has been revealed as a complex phenomenon and, from the educational point of view, this relationship becomes even more evident, since the multidisciplinarity, interdisciplinarity that encompasses knowledge, allows diverse interpretations to the development of a framework theoretical. In this sense, the multiplicity of tourism knowledge often makes it difficult to understand the real capabilities, that is, the competences that govern the future graduate in the area, as well as the professional identification for the job market. Therefore, the general objective of the study is to understand the professional training and the skills of the tourist, in the perception of the representatives of the tourist trade, teachers and coordinators of the courses of Tourism in the state of Rio Grande do Norte; and as specific, to investigate the vocational skills of the training; analyze the professional training of the tourism graduate; and evaluate the professional performance of the bachelor. In principle, the impact of a study focused on the theory of competencies and the training of the Bachelor in Tourism for the state of Rio Grande do Norte, which views tourism as one of the activities that generates and collects revenues, is quite significant for understanding the importance of the professional that integrates this market. Thus, searching for an understanding of the respective universes, academy and market, we used a qualitative, exploratory methodology, through documentary and content analysis, using a semistructured interview with the research actors, after which it was carried out the triangulation of data through the NVIVO qualitative analysis software. As a result, as a result, it was verified that the competences of the tourist is directed to administrative / managerial aspects with a focus on planning and management. The main pillar of the triad that formulates competence: knowledge, ability and attitude-CHA is the C, aimed at knowledge. The Professional Training in Tourism offered in Higher Education of the RN is perceived by the bias of multidisciplinarity, but it emphasizes, as well as in the skills, in the planning and management, it was also pointed out the lack of integration and effective communication between the academy and the "Tourist trade" of the state of RN. And the professional performance of the tourist is perceived in a satisfactory and representative way by the interviewees of the research.

Por sua natureza dinâmica, o universo turístico vem se revelando como um fenômeno complexo e, sob o ponto de vista educacional, essa relação se torna ainda mais evidente, pois a multidisciplinaridade, interdisciplinaridade que engloba o conhecimento, possibilita diversas interpretações ao desenvolvimento de um arcabouço teórico único. Nesse sentido, a multiplicidade do saber turístico, muitas vezes, dificulta a compreensão sobre as reais capacidades, ou seja, as competências, que regem o futuro diplomado na área, bem como a identificação profissional para o mercado de trabalho. Portanto, o estudo tem como objetivo geral compreender a formação profissional e as competências do turismólogo, na percepção dos representantes do “trade turístico”, professores e coordenadores dos cursos de Turismo no estado do Rio Grande do Norte. Em princípio, o impacto de um estudo voltado à teoria de competências e à formação do Bacharel em Turismo, para o estado do Rio Grande do Norte que visualiza o turismo como uma das atividades que mais gera e arrecada receitas, é bastante significativo para a compreensão da importância do profissional que integra esse mercado. Assim, buscando compreensão sobre os respectivos universos, academia e mercado, utilizouse de metodologia de caráter qualitativa, exploratória, por meio de análise documental e de conteúdo, utilizando-se de entrevista semiestruturada com os atores da pesquisa, após, efetuou-se a triangulação de dados por meio do software de análise qualitativa NVIVO. Dessa forma, como resultado, constatou-se que as competências do turismólogo direcionam-se aos aspectos administrativos/gerenciais com o foco em planejamento e gestão. O pilar de destaque da tríade que formula a competência: conhecimento, habilidade e atitude-CHA é o C, voltado ao conhecimento técnico. A Formação Profissional em Turismo ofertada no Ensino Superior do RN é percebida pelo viés da multidisciplinaridade, porém, concede ênfase, assim como nas competências, no planejamento e gestão, pontuou-se ainda, a falta de integração e comunicação eficaz entre a academia e o “trade turístico” do estado do RN.
