Sobrepeso em adolescentes e adultos jovens: uma teoria de médio alcance

The present study aims to build a medium-range theory for the diagnosis of overweight nursing in adolescents and young adults. This is a methodological study in the light of the theoretical framework of Roy and of Lopes, Silva and Herdman. The study was made operational through an integrative literature review, carried out in the databases Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature; Scopus; National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health; and Web of Science Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature; Web of Science; and National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health. The descriptors “Overweight” were used; “Adolescent” and “Young Adult”, as well as the Boolean operators AND and OR. It obtained 3.925 articles, which were evaluated by means of a consensus among three researchers with the aid of the State of the Art Through Systematic Review Software. The results show 3 essential attributes, 14 antecedents and 8 consequent ones focused on the nursing diagnosis of Overweight. The essential attributes were: being overweight; food intake higher than body expenses; and modernization. The clinical history of Overweight was found to be: low sleep quality; deficient knowledge of healthy lifestyle habits; sedentary lifestyle; eating in stressful situations; alcoholism; inadequate eating habits; personal or family history of overweight; age of menarche before 12 years of age; moderate household income; live in an urban area; stable union; women; use of obesogenic drugs; and academic life. Finally, the clinical consequences were: negative selfperceived health; restrictive behaviors for weight control; metabolic disorders; stress related to study or work; dissatisfaction with body image; increased blood pressure; impaired mental health; and smoking. Then the Medium Reach Theory of the referred diagnosis was developed. It was found that, from the creation of the Medium Reach Theory, it was possible to better understand the diagnosis of Overweight nursing in the context of adolescents and young adults. The understanding of this phenomenon allows the advancement of nursing science by directing interventions and providing holistic care and focused on the needs of the clientele.
